Health care meeting Monday 28th.
Hi,

Diana Degette's health care meeting on Saturday Sept 12 was not accessible. The staff did not know about any accessible entrances, there was no wheelchair seating, no interpretors, no volunteers to read to or to help the blind, no large print, no braille, no hearing aid infrastructure.
We were quite upset about this and asked for another, accessible meeting. And her staff got back with me.

So we are meeting with her at her offices in Denver on Monday Sept 28 at 2 pm. I need to know by the 23rd who is coming and what accommodations (interpretor, mobility, large print, etc) need to be made. Please send this to everyone you know who could come (I told her staff that the disabled community is extensive, proud, and active--and she ignores us at her peril--so it would really help if people came to this!)

Also, we need to come with prepared statements on health care. Her explanations and issue positions on health care are at <http://degette.house.gov/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=803&itemid=241>.

Please contact me at deenalarsen at yahoo.com to RSVP.

Please pass this on to any Congressional District 1 folks who may want to attend--and have them RSVP to me by the 23rd so that we can set up an appropriate venue and let people know exactly where to show up.

Thanks very much!!!!

That's pretty bad. Boneheaded to say the least. We try very hard in the party to make sure all of our meetings are physically accessible - which is sometimes hard with Denver's old infrastructure. Other accomodations are not always there - but can be provided with notice. Glad she is working with the community for another meeting.

It was at South High School. ALL they needed to do was open up the wing for the accessible entrance, hire an interpretor, and designate wheelchair seating.

BLAH.

Having just moved, I'm not actually sure what congressional district I'm in now. Your post is reminding me to look it up. Thanks.
