How do you respond to someoen misusing words?
    PROBLEM:
On Tuesday, State Sen. Dave Schultheis, Republican from Colorado Springs, compared President Obama to the terrorists on 9/11. Schultheis tweeted this: "Don't for a second, think Obama wants what is best for U.S. He is flying the U.S. Plane right into the ground at full speed. Let's Roll."

As reported in today's Denver Post, Ed Kowalski, a director for the New York-based 9/11 Families for a Secure America, said Schultheis was "clearly" referring to United Flight 93, the plane that hijackers flew into the ground on 9/11. (Denver Post 11/12/09). "Let's roll" were reportedly the last words from one of the passengers just before they attempted to storm the cockpit.

Schultheis claims in today's Post that he wasn't referring to United Flight 93 and comparing President Obama to Al Qaida terrorists. But that's baloney, and we all know it.

If we don't respond and condemn this kind of thing, then we condone it with our silence. So speak out. Click below to tell Schultheis what you think of his disgusting, inflammatory comments. We'll share your comments with him, with leaders in his party in Colorado, and with the media:

    http://www.ProgressNowColorado.org/Schultheis

MY RESPONSE: I disagree with what you say, but I will defend your right to say it.

However, where's the beef? The previous president spent trillions of dollars on wars that were based on lies and did nothing to prevent future terrorist attacks. This president is opening up international cooperation and global awareness--the only way to fight global terrorism. If you are not referring to the terrorist attack, then may I say that, on the contrary, Bush was directing this country into bankruptcy and fruitless, useless wars, inviting more terrorist reprisals. Obama has already pulled our economy out of that nosedive and back on track. Just look at your 401K statements to see this. Notice how they go up now, instead of down?

    Message to my congresspeople.
I could not get through on the phones.

I want you to support the public option. The CEO of United Health care gets $57,000 an hour--the government bureaucrat who would decide if I could get a treatment makes $57,000 a year.

United Health and other health care insurances will not cover me because I have preexisting conditions. The public option would allow me to have health care I could not get anywhere. \

In any other developed nation (except China), health care is a right! Why is it not a right here?!?

Our small businesses compete on the world stage with a huge, 100 ton handicap when they have to shoulder health care costs directly and no other businesses from any other nation (including China) have those costs! This is unfair to the American business community and will drive our economy to the ground.

Further, please look at Australia's malpractice system. This is a fair system, providing only economic damages--not crippling punitive damages. Once malpractice has been determined, the courts have experts tell the medical practitioner (and the rest of the medical community)what to do to prevent the problem from occurring again. This plain, common sense approach would save enough money and lower health costs enough to pay for the public option.

    Health care meeting Monday 28th.
    Hi,

Diana Degette's health care meeting on Saturday Sept 12 was not accessible. The staff did not know about any accessible entrances, there was no wheelchair seating, no interpretors, no volunteers to read to or to help the blind, no large print, no braille, no hearing aid infrastructure.
We were quite upset about this and asked for another, accessible meeting. And her staff got back with me.

So we are meeting with her at her offices in Denver on Monday Sept 28 at 2 pm. I need to know by the 23rd who is coming and what accommodations (interpretor, mobility, large print, etc) need to be made. Please send this to everyone you know who could come (I told her staff that the disabled community is extensive, proud, and active--and she ignores us at her peril--so it would really help if people came to this!)

Also, we need to come with prepared statements on health care. Her explanations and issue positions on health care are at <http://degette.house.gov/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=803&itemid=241>.

Please contact me at deenalarsen at yahoo.com to RSVP.

Please pass this on to any Congressional District 1 folks who may want to attend--and have them RSVP to me by the 23rd so that we can set up an appropriate venue and let people know exactly where to show up.

    Thanks very much!!!!

The Powers That Be Are Going to Take Away MORE pain meds!@!
    So here is my response:

Please, let us consumers make this choice. You allow cigarettes, which kill people, and yet will not allow these drugs which save people from pain and help them be productive citizens???!?!?!?!

Before taking these choices off the market, ask yourself what you would do if you were in chronic pain. Imagine being hit by a hammer every 5 seconds all the time, day and night. And then see if you can live with your decision to deny someone relief from this hell.

    ACTION ALERT:
Join APF in Urging the FDA to Protect the Rights of People with Pain - 1) Sign Petition and 2) Send Your Comments to the Public Docket!

    ACTION ONE: SIGN OUR PETITION

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is considering advice from its Advisory Committee that would eliminate all prescription acetaminophen combination medications (like Vicodin, Percocet). In addition, they are recommending taking the 500 mg (extra strength) dose of acetaminophen (the medicine in Tylenol) off store shelves and make it available only by prescription. These changes could negatively affect people suffering from pain who rely on these medicines every day.

    Act now and sign petition!

Our position is simple: We can address the problem of harmful overuse of acetaminophen by conducting a major and sustained public education program about the risks and safe use of acetaminophen and by better labeling of medicines that contain acetaminophen. Taking products off the market is over-reacting and can be harmful to millions of people who rely on these medicines for effective pain management.

The deadline for signing the petition is September 27th —don’t delay, sign today!

ACTION TWO: SUBMIT YOUR COMMENTS DIRECTLY TO THE FDA

The American Pain Foundation has joined forces with other pain advocacy organizations to create an Acetaminophen Task Force to study the FDA Advisory Committee’s recommendations. The Pain Care Forum’s Acetaminophen Task Force produced comprehensive statements of concerns and recommendations about the FDA Recommendations. Please read the documents linked below and compose your own comments to the FDA. There is just a brief window of opportunity to respond. The FDA is accepting comments up to September 30th.

Respond to the FDA NOW: http://www.regulations.gov/search/Regs/home.html#submitComment?=0900006480968c1a

Letter to Red Rocks about wheelchair seating swiping.
    Hi,

I have been up to Red Rocks once--and only once--since I have been confined to a wheelchair. We had carefully gotten the front row seats, but a scalper had re-sold our tickets. When we complained, we were told that we would have to go to the back. We got up to the back a half an hour later (as we had to go all the way around and I am not that fast uphill and we had to rely on the kindness of strangers to push my chair). Then we were assaulted with cigarette smoke from smokers deliberately smoking in the back rows--despite many signs. The security people did nothing. I had a bad asthma attack and an ambulance medic was called in to me--and we had to leave about half way through the show.

I, personally, will never forgive Red Rocks. I will never go to a show there again. However, I firmly believe that disabled people deserve the right to enjoy a show just as much as anyone else.

I understand that the nature of the theater does not allow middle wheelchair/disabled seating. However, shows could do a much better job of ensuring that the back of the theater is smoke free and actually usable for handicapped people.

I would also like to offer a solution to this problem. Simply designate handicapped parking close by the handicapped seats, and require that patrons who are using these seats be parked in handicapped parking. Note this requirement on everything. Most handicapped folks do have a handicapped permit.

If the person does not have a handicapped permit, then they would have to provide identification along with their ticket. In fact, make it a requirement that each of the tickets in the first few rows be assigned to a person and not be re-assignable. Security or the ticket checkers can then check ids and tickets for these rows when the people show their tickets for the events.

I put this in a friend's journal, but wanted to share:
I've found that love and healthy relationships only happen when the people involved:

Respect each other and enjoy each other's company--without demanding change.

At the very least, like themselves and are comfortable being alone--they don't ****NEED**** the other person to ful-FILL themselves.

Invest energy, thought, and souls into communicating honestly with each other.

    Are committed to growing themselves.

Are committed to supporting each other's true growth.

    Laugh together.

Mind you, I have found this because I have found my love. I didn't know it before...

I want a choice of Pain Meds
    Here is what I wrote:

Please change your policies to allow these opiods on the market and warn people about their dangers.

Just imagine that someone is hitting your head every 5 minutes with a hammer. Now, you can stop that (for a little while) with a drug that might give you a heart attack in 10 or 20 years or you can just endure someone hitting your head every 5 minutes. I'll take the heart attack in 10 years for just a few hours of comfort now.

    Thank you.

The Federal Drug Administration (FDA) may remove important pain medications from the market or could very likely limit access to certain pain medications that are currently legally prescribed to millions of Americans suffering from pain.

The FDA needs to hear how vital access to these medications is to people with pain and what tragic results could occur if they were denied access to these medications or if additional barriers were created making access more difficult for people who are legally prescribed these medications.

Had the day from hell, starting with losing her green notebook with all of the information needed to make tomorrow's deadline, vomiting in the car on the way to work, spending 2 hours getting the car detailed, cleaning up frantically trying to find the damn notebook, getting a $600 bill for the crown without anesthesia, etc.

Why is the Senate laughing at a workable, common sense proposal to solve the health care crisis--a single payer system that works in other countries such as Australia? Could it be that if there is only one non-profit payer, then the millions of dollars the Senators get in contributions from the greedy profit players now would disappear? Doesn't our health come before Senators' profits?

I just took a short quiz to learn about the Department of Homeland Security’s efforts to “protect us” when we travel. I was very surprised by what I learned. If you travel frequently, you should take this quiz:
    http://action.aclu.org/travel_quiz

    Here are a couple questions:

True or false? Border security can seize your laptop, cell phone or camera with no suspicion or explanation.

True or false? Many airports use scanners that conduct a virtual "strip search" of passengers.

True or false? There are over one million names on the terrorist watch list.

Take the quiz to find out the answers.

    Try Bush for War Crimes
During the last 8 years, terrible crimes were committed in our name. New memos just released by the Obama Administration show that torture and other crimes were not only condoned, but encouraged by key Bush appointees. It's time to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate and bring to justice those responsible.

Can you help me ask the Attorney General to appoint a special prosecutor?
